The Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, has welcomed the Court of Appeal judgement, which affirmed Natasha Akpoti as the winner of the Kogi Central Senatorial election.
Naija News recalls that in September, the Kogi State Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Lokoja nullified the victory of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Abubakar Ohere, as the winner of the Kogi Central Senatorial Election.
However, Ohere headed to the appellate court to seek redress, but the court further upheld Akpoti-Uduaghan as the poll winner.
The Court of Appeal, Abuja Division, on Tuesday, upheld Akpoti-Uduaghan as the duly elected candidate in the Kogi Central Senatorial Election held earlier in February.
The court dismissed the appeal filed by Ohere for lacking in merit.
According to Channels TV, Yahaya Bello, while reacting to the court ruling, congratulated Akpoti-Uduaghan of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and everyone who participated in the democratic process.
The governor called on everyone in the state to accept the decision.
Yahaya Bello Shuns Invitation To Attend Burial Of Late Ohinoyi
Meanwhile, Yahaya Bello, has allegedly failed to honour the invitation sent to him to attend the burial of the late Ohinoyi of Ebiraland, Ado Ibrahim.
Naija News recalls that Ibrahim died peacefully in the early hours of Sunday, October 29, 2023, at the age of 94.
It was gathered that neither the governor nor any government official from the state were around at the burial of the late monarch, who was laid to rest in the late hours of Sunday in accordance with Islamic customs.
According to a source privy to the incident, the burial was delayed till around 8 p.m. as the community kept awaiting the arrival of the governor or representatives of the state government to grace the occasion.
The source told SaharaReporters that the governor’s absence sparked anger among residents, who blamed his absence at the burial on the strained relationship between him and the late monarch.
