Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo has revealed the reason he has not revealed the names of politicians sponsoring insecurity in the state.
The governor said the reason for his decision was not to interfere in the investigation being carried out by security agencies in the state and to allow them to conclude their findings.
Speaking with reporters in Lagos on Sunday, Uzodinma said heads of the security agencies persuaded him not to reveal those behind the violence and killings in the South-East state.
He, however, promised to reveal the names of those behind insecurity in the state as soon as the investigation is completed.
He said: “If you watch the last quarterly stakholders’ meeting held in Owerri where I was to name some of those suspected to be behind the insecurity in Imo State, in that meeting, I did say that the security agencies pleaded that because investigation is still going on, it will be too early for me to begin to name anybody.
“I explained that day that I will allow them to complete their job. The last time I contacted them, they asked for two more weeks. l do hope that in two weeks, the information will be ready and it will be made public to Nigerians.”
This development follows the murder of a military couple and the gruesome attack on police officers at a checkpoint at Agwa in the Oguta Local Government Area of the state.
During the attack, the gunmen killed Ukam Efut, who is an Assistant Superintendent of Police, and proceeded to cut off his manhood and fled with it.
A resident in the community narrated that the gunmen met the policeman and his colleagues at a checkpoint and opened fire on them.
