Court Rules On Imo North Senatorial Election

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to stop further action on the Imo north senatorial election.

Naija News recalls the nation’s electoral umpire declared Benjamin Uwajumogu winner of the February 23 election in Imo state, however, it did not issue him a certificate of return.

The commission further set up a committee to review the conduct and outcome of the election.

However, Uwajumogu, in disagreement with the step taken by the commission, headed to the court to challenge INEC’s decision.

In a ruling on Wednesday, NAN reports Justice Taiwo Taiwo, ordered INEC to halt any further action pending the determination of the application “for prohibition.”

The judge also granted Uwajumogu permission to apply for a judicial review of INEC’s decision.

All the necessary processes were also ordered to be served on the respondent within three days.
