Senate Sends Message To President Tinubu On Military Invasion Of Niger Republic

The Senate has advised President Bola Tinubu to engage in diplomacy in order to return Niger Republic to democratic rule and restore ousted President Mohamed Bazoum to power.

The Red Chamber made the resolution after a four-hour closed-door session on Saturday to discuss the political development in the West African country.

The resolution of the upper legislative chamber followed an executive communication, which President Tinubu sought for the implementation of the resolution of ECOWAS on the political situation in Niger Republic.

The Red Chamber mandated its leadership to further engage with the President on behalf of the entire Senate to ensure how best to resolve the situation in the neighboring country.

Tinubu Planning To Declare State Of Emergency In Nigeria So He Can Suspend Tribunal – Timi Frank

A former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Timi Frank, has claimed that President Bola Tinubu is planning to suspend the ongoing Presidential Election Petition Tribunal (PEPT) and declare a state of emergency.

Frank made the allegation in a statement he released to newsmen on Saturday, Naija News reports.

He alleged that Tinubu was seeking the Senate’s approval for Nigeria to go to war over the coup in Niger Republic to enable him to declare a state of emergency in Nigeria and suspend the sitting of the Presidential Election tribunal.

Frank warned Tinubu against leading Nigeria into a war with Niger as it would plunge the country into long-term economic, political and social devastation.

He insisted that Nigeriens should be allowed to solve their problems on their own.

Some Senators have rejected the plan of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to deploy Nigerian soldiers to Niger Republic and restore ousted President, Mohamed Bazoum to power.

Recall that Tinubu, in a letter to the Senate on Friday, briefed the National Assembly on the proposed military invasion of the West African country and other penalties against the coup plotters in the Niger Republic.

But according to SaharaReporters, the Senate is currently holding a closed-door executive session to discuss the deployment of soldiers and the power supply cut-off already implemented in Niger.

A source told the news platform that senators have refused to listen to Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, who urged them to support Tinubu’s decisions on Nigerthe West African country.

Some chieftains and eminent leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have arrived in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) for the party’s stakeholders’ meeting.

Naija News reports that the crucial meeting is taking place at the lodge of the Bauchi State Governor in Asokoro, Abuja.

Some PDP chieftains that have arrived for the meeting include the 2023 presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar; the Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum and Bauchi Governor, Bala Mohammed; Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa, Godwin Obaseki of Edo State, Douye Diri of Bayelsa State, Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State, Ademola Adeleke of Osun State, and Kefas Agbu of Taraba State, among others.

The meeting is coming on the heels of a similar one which was held a fortnight ago at the Abuja residence of the former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Tom Ikimi.

Details Of PDP Stakeholders Meeting In Abuja Emerges

The details of the stakeholders’ meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) held at the Bauchi Governor’s Lodge in Abuja have emerged.

In a communique released after the meeting on Saturday, the Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum and Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed, said the party leaders resolved to renew their commitment to discipline in the interest of the party.

The Bauchi governor added that PDP leaders resolved to shun any form of anti-party activities and uphold the need for party discipline in line with the ethos of the party.

Ministerial Nominee, Bosun Tijani Apologises For Past Twitter Posts [Photos]

The ministerial nominee from Ogun State, Bosun Tijani, has apologised after being queried by Senators over some Twitter posts he made in 2019.

Recall that President Bola Tinubu had on Wednesday, through his Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, sent an additional list of 19 nominees to complement the previously sent 28 ministerial nominees.

While appearing before the Senators on Saturday for his screening, Senator Abdulfatai Buhari (APC – Oyo North) asked the Tijani to speak on his 2019 Twitter post and whether he is still a patriotic Nigerian.

DSS Grills Ogun SSG For Five Hours Over Fraud

The Department of State Services (DSS) has reportedly invited and questioned the Secretary to Ogun State Government (SSG), Tokunbo Talabi, over recent allegations of fraud levelled against him.

A source told The PUNCH that the invitation and subsequent interrogation for over five hours on Friday were a result of the allegations levelled against him.

Talabi, who was released on self recognition, was grilled at the Ogun State Command Headquarters of the DSS, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, on Friday, at 6:55 pm.

Talabi’s alleged involvement with Superflux Printing Limited, located on Acme Road, Ikeja, Lagos State, has in recent times come under close scrutiny.

Vwaere Diaso: Lagos Govt Panel Arrests Elevator Installer

The investigation panel set up by the Lagos State Government to probe the elevator accident at the General Hospital, Odan, Lagos Island, has made a crucial decision.

Naija News reported that a female doctor, Vwaere Diaso, died in a faulty elevator two weeks before the completion of her housemanship at the General Hospital.

The elevator was said to have been previously faulty, and staff had complained about it before the sad incident.

The incident sparked outrage on and off social media, which prompted the Lagos government to institute a panel to investigate the elevator accident and conclude its findings within 48 hours.

In a statement on Friday, the Permanent Secretary, Lagos Ministry of Information and Strategy, Olumide Sogunle, said the panel has handed over the elevator installer to the Nigerian police for questioning and further interrogation.

Zoning Arrangements Emerge As APC Fills Vacant Positions

Following the selection of former Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje and Senator Ajibola Basiru as National Chairman and National Secretary, the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has come up with a zoning arrangement for filling the remaining vacant positions of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party.

This decision was taken during the 12th NEC meeting of the party in Abuja on Thursday, Naija News gathered.

Six positions are currently vacant in the NWC due to the death of a member, the resignation of three officers, and the nomination of two committee members for ministerial appointment.

Deputy National Chairman (North), Abubakar Kyari; and National Women Leader, Betta Edu are ministerial nominees; National Vice Chairman (North West), Salihu Lukman; National Legal Adviser, Ahmed Usman El-Marzuk; and Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Muritala Ajaka resigned from their positions while the office of the National Welfare Secretary became vacant following the demise of the occupant early this year.

World Bank President Hails President Tinubu Over Fuel Subsidy Removal

World Bank President, Ajay Banga, has applauded President Bola Tinubu for taking the bold step to remove fuel subsidies to avoid an unsustainable fiscal deficit.

The president of the World financial institution said it was laudable that Tinubu is determined to address Nigeria’s challenges and committed to economic growth and stability.

He expressed confidence that Tinubu’s efforts would set Nigeria on a path toward a prosperous future and position the country as an African champion.

In a chat with State House correspondents after a meeting with Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Friday, Banga said the World Bank would support Nigeria not only with financial aid but also with knowledge and guidance on regulatory and fiscal policies.
