They Should Have Suspended Nigeria – Aisha Yesufu Fumes As AU Suspends Gabon

Political activist, Aisha Yesufu has reacted to the suspension of Gabon by the African Union (AU).

Naija News recalls that the AU had suspended Gabon’s membership in the wake of the coup in the Central African country.

AU’s Peace and Security Council said on Thursday evening that it strongly condemned the take-over of power by the military in Gabon, which deposed President Ali Bongo.

It suspended Gabon’s participation in all activities of the AU and its institutions with immediate effect until constitutional order is restored in the country.

Reacting to the development via Twitter, Yesufu opined that the AU ought to have suspended Nigeria from the union for accepting the outcome of a compromised election.

She argued that there would be an increase in coups until military and political coup are treated in the same manner.

According to her, “If they didn’t want coup to be order of the day they should have suspended Nigeria for the rigged election.

“Until Political/Civilian coup and military coup are treated in the same manner, there will be increase in the military coups and sadly citizens will welcome them.

“African Union has not shown that it is there for the benefit of the African people but rather it is there for the regime protection of African leaders.

“How can we have countries that have been ruled for decades by the same person and yet African Union does nothing!

“Nobody cares who anybody voted for and anyone on the ballot paper could emerge as the President but when the process is rigged for a particular candidate to emerge then that is a political/Civilian coup that should be condemned even if your candidate is the beneficiary.”
