The lawyer to embattled Nigerian singer, Speed Darlington, Stan Alieke, has disclosed that the case involving the controversial singer and his colleague, Burna Boy, has been fully charged to court.

Naija News reported that the police re-arrested Darlington in Owerri, Imo State, on his return to Nigeria for a show.

The singer was moved from Owerri to the Police Force Intelligence Department (FID) in Abuja and has remained in detention since the arrest.

Human rights lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, in an exclusive interview with Naija News, noted that some powerful forces are behind the arrest and detention of Darlington.

Adeyanju further stated that the Nigeria Police Force is violating the singer’s rights.

According to Adeyanju, Darlington had no plan to jump bail, adding that the singer had an emergency in the US and came back.

Speaking on the move to secure his release, he said, “We have just filed a fundamental right proceeding at the Federal High Court, which is aimed at securing his release.”

Giving an update on the case, Alieke, in a statement on Monday, said the Speed Darlington, also known as ‘Akpi’, was not arraigned in court last week because the judges were at a conference.

Alieke said the courts will shut down by next week for the festive season until late January.
