Sokoto Senator Dumps PDP For APC

Nigeria’s main opposition, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has lost a member to the ruling All Progressive Congress (PDP) in Sokoto State.

The Senator representing Sokoto South Senatorial District, Senator Ibrahim Danbaba, announced on Wednesday (today) that he is no longer a member of the umbrella party.

Stating his reason for dumping the opposition, the politician said he left the PDP because of lingering crisis in Sokoto State chapter of the party.

Naija News understands that Danbaba made his decision known in a letter addressed to the National Assembly which was read today by Senate President Ahmad Lawan, during plenary.

According to him, APC’s ideology is in line with his personal political belief.

Meanwhile, a Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Bayelsa State, Sunday Frank Oputu has been shot dead by gunmen in his residence.

Oputu was killed by gunmen in the early hours of Tuesday at his residence at Bay-Bridge road, Yenagoa, the state capital.

The deceased who happens to be an ally of former Minister of Agriculture, Heineken Lokpobiri, belonged to the faction loyal to the ex-Minister.

Oputu before his death was seen as the voice of the opposition party in the Bayelsa.

The APC chieftain was among party members that stood against the control and APC leadership of the Minister of Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva.

The development was confirmed by the spokesperson of the state police command, Asinim Butswat.

Butswat noted that the commissioner of police in the state has directed operatives to intensify efforts to identify and arrest the perpetrators.
