Former lawmaker, Shehu Sani, has reacted to the reported suicide of a Nigerian soldier collaborating with Boko Haram terrorists in the Northern part of the country.
News had emerged earlier that an instructor with the Nigerian Army (NA) battalion in Geidam, Yobe State, Lance Corporal Jibrin, killed himself after he was arrested for conniving with terrorists in the state.
Naija News learnt from reports that the soldier had disappeared from his duty post a few days ago, but was sighted among the Boko Haram terrorists that attacked Geidam town last week.
Military sources had told newsmen in a statement earlier that the soldier was tracked by the army intelligence unit and was found in Gashua, about 100 kilometres away from his duty post, on Tuesday.
Jibril was without delay reportedly arrested and handcuffed. Moments later, the soldier according to reports struggled with one of the soldiers on guard, seized a gun and killed himself.
Nigerians have since expressed doubt about the situation.
Reacting also in a post via his verified Twitter account, Shehu Sani who is seeking the office of Governor of Kaduna State in the forthcoming election, wrote: “The suicide of L/Corporal Jubril who was reportedly a terrorist collaborator in custody need to be further clarified.”

Meanwhile, Daily Trusts has claimed in a report that a reliable source had disclosed that the suspect had mentioned some names of his colleagues as collaborators, and they were already facing interrogation.
Also, a retired commander in the Nigerian Navy, Abiodun Durowaiye-Herberts, who spoke with the media said there was more to the suicide case.
He opined that the deceased might have been silenced so as not to reveal the names of his accomplices.
“As far as some of us are concerned, we know how these things play out. The guy must be an insider, and for him to remain alive of course a lot of heads would roll because he had to mention names, the best way to avoid that is to silence him. So, there is more than meets the eyes about what we are being made to know,” Dailytrust quoted Durowaiye-Herberts as saying.
