Former Kaduna Central lawmaker, Senator Shehu Sani has condemned Thursday’s attack by terrorist gunmen on staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Sani on Friday said Nigerians must not allow the criminality to cause fear in them but should rather be a call to form a common stand against the attackers.
His position follows the killing of the INEC official identified as Mr. Nwokorie Anthony who was gunned down during the Continuous Voter Registration Exercise (CVR) exercise in Ihitte Uboma Local Government Area of the state.
It was gathered that INEC has suspended the exercise following the killings.
Speaking on the incident, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Prof. Emeka Ezeonu, said Nwokorie was killed at Nkwo Ihitte (PU 004) in Amakohia Ward (RA 02) of Ihitte Uboma LGA.
Taking to his Twitter account to react to the development, Senator Sani wrote: “The attack on the INEC registration center and the killing of the INEC staff by those terrorist gunmen in Imo state is condemnable. That act of criminality & the video footage was meant to spray fear, but should rather galvanize collective outrage & defiance against them.”

Meanwhile, the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has distanced itself from the incessant attacks and killings in Imo, Anambra, and other parts of the South-East.
This was made known in a statement issued by its spokesman, Emma Powerful, on Thursday, Naija News reports.
Powerful said IPOB was not responsible for the attacks in the region but only after the protection of the people and communities in the zone.
He stated that members of the group are civilised people and not criminals, adding that IPOB members are never involved in the barbarities going on in the South East.
The IPOB spokesman asserted that anybody linking IPOB or ESN with the attacks and killings in the region is a blackmailer.
