The Senate on Tuesday confirmed the nomination of Professor Ayo Omotayo as the new Director-General of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) located in Kuru, Jos, Plateau State.
The confirmation follows the consideration of a report by the Joint Committee on Establishment and Public Service Matters; and Federal Character and Inter-Governmental Affairs.
Naija News recalls President Muhammadu Buhari had in November 2021, appointed Professor Ayo Omotayo as the Director-General of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), subject to Senate approval.
He forwarded a letter to the lawmakers requesting their confirmation of the appointment nomination.
Buhari’s letter titled: “Request for confirmation of appointment of Prof. Ayo C. Omotayo PhD as Director-General, National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS),” read: “In accordance with the provision of Section 5 subsection 2 of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies Act 2004, I write to present for confirmation by the Senate, the appointment of Prof. Ayo C. Omotayo as Director-General, National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS).
“The nominee’s CV is attached herewith. It is my hope that the Senate will consider and confirm the nominee in the usual expeditious manner.”
His nomination was confirmed during Senate plenary on Tuesday, 8th February after the findings of the committee.
Presenting the report, Vice-Chairman of the Committee, Senator Danjuma La’ah, on behalf of the Chairman, Ibrahim Shekarau, said Omotayo fits every requirement for appointment as contained in sections 3(2b) and 5 of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies 2004.
He also passed all security screenings.
“Both the DSS and Police reports submitted to the Committee on the life of the nominee to date did not reveal any iota of crime or wrongdoing against him”, La’ah said.
