There is currently a heavy presence of security operatives in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, amidst the ongoing Independence Day celebration.
Naija News reports that Nigeria is marking it’s 64th Independence anniversary today, October 1.
Hence, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has assigned 3,500 personnel from its FCT Command to ensure security throughout the nation’s capital city.
In a speech to the personnel deployed for this purpose, the FCT commandant, Dr. Olusola Odumosu, stressed the importance of safeguarding Critical National Assets and Infrastructure, as well as ensuring the safety of FCT residents during the festivities.
He said, “The government and residents of the FCT expect so much from the corps in order to have a peaceful celebration. The command must ensure the safety of public and private properties in the Federal Capital Territory.
“FCT being the seat of power and the host to diplomatic headquarters of countries of the world means the corps must be highly professional in the discharge of their duty to avoid any form of infraction.”
The NSCDC boss stressed the necessity for all officers and personnel within the command to adhere strictly to the Standard Operational Procedure (SOP) established by the agency.
He highlighted that maintaining 24-hour surveillance over Critical National Assets should be regarded as a paramount concern.
He urged all deployed personnel to collaborate effectively with other security agencies.
According to the command’s spokesperson, Samuel Idoko, this deployment aims to guarantee public safety, safeguard Critical National Assets and Infrastructure, and protect both public and private properties.
“Also deployed are special squads including Armed Squad, Special Crack Squad (operation Adaka-su), Female Strike Force, Counter Terrorism Squad, Agro Rangers and undercover personnel.
“Officers and men have also been strategically deployed to cover all the nook and cranny of the FCT, including all the area councils as well as the city centre,” Idoko noted.
