No less than two hundred bandits have been killed by security operatives in Niger State during a gun battle in two local government areas.
The Niger State Commissioner for Local Government Chieftaincy Affairs and Internal, Mr. Emmanuel Bagna Umar made the disclosure on Wednesday during a chat with journalists in Minna, the state capital.
He revealed that the bandits were killed by members of the Joint Security Taskforce in Rafi and Mariga Local Government Areas.
Specifically, the Commissioner pointed out that the bandits were killed in the Kundu axis of Rafi and Babanlaba axis of Mariga local governments and other parts of the state between Sunday and Wednesday.
The leaders of the bandits identified as Ali Kawajo, Yello Jan Bros, Kachalla Halilu, and Bello Tunji were also neutralized during the gun battle with the joint security task force.
Sixty motorcycles and rustled animals were also recovered with the Commissioner disclosing that some of the recovered cattle have been returned to their owners.
Unfortunately, two security operatives also lost their lives during the encounter.
Umar further pointed out that while the bandits may likely regroup to continue their criminal activities, the security forces are also ready to engage and neutralize them.
”We are not ignorant that bandits may regroup, we will neutralize them on any side they may take”
“We need the cooperation of the traditional rulers, communities, the security personnel and even the media. This is one fight for all. We recorded this success through collective efforts of all,” he said.
