Prominent Delta PDP Chieftain Dumps Okowa, Joins APC After Tinubu’s Victory

A prominent chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party in Delta State and the Koromotiemowei of Ogbe Ijoh Warri Kingdom, Aribogha Johnny, has defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Naija News reports that Johnny, alongside his supporters, dumped Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and PDP on Wednesday hours after the Independent National Electoral Commission declared APC candidate, Bola Tinubu as the winner of the 2023 presidential election.

In a statement signed on Thursday, the former PDP chieftain clarified that his decision to dump the party is not due to the outcome of the just concluded presidential election.

Given the reason for his exit from PDP, Johnny said he has faced a high level of marginalization and disregard in the party for many years.

According to him, his political allegiance had been with the PDP until the party leadership started treating him like a low-class member despite his contributions to the successes recorded in the party at the state level in the past years.

Johnny added he has decided to move to a party where his efforts in the politics of the state and beyond will be recognized and appreciated.

The APC leadership in Delta, led by the Director General of the party’s governorship campaign council, Godsday Orubebe, and Bosin Ebikeme, the director of the party’s contact and mobilization campaign council, expressed joy while receiving the former PDP chieftain and his supporters noting that their decision was in the right direction.

They remarked that the Delta APC would regard him as a bonafide member who will also be part of the party’s decision-making process.
