Presidency Reacts, Explains Why Dead Person Was Included In Buhari’s List Of Appointment

The Presidency has reacted to the discovery that a dead man was included in the list of names sent to the Senate for approval into the board of some federal government agencies by President Muhammadu Buhari.

It will be recalled as earlier reported by Naija News that the President on Tuesday, forwarded a list of thirty-eight persons for approval to the Senate.

The letter was read by Senate President Ahmad Lawan, on the floor of the upper legislative chamber.

However, the news later emerged that one of the nominees, Chief Tobias Chukwuemeka Okwuru from Ebonyi state was already dead and his name was still included on the list.

It was discovered that the appointee had died on February 27, 2020.

Okwuru’s name was included for confirmation as a board member of the Federal Character Commission (FCC).

Reacting to the development, President Buhari’s aide on Social Media, Lauretta Onochie, explained that Chief Okwuru was alive as at the time of his nomination and the news of his death was not communicated to the federal government.

Onochie wrote on Twitter: “Hon Tobias Okwuru was very much alive when President @MBuhari appointed him as the Ebonyi State Member in d Federal Character Commission

“He came to update his CV, in readiness for the appointment after the Senate screening.

“When he sadly passed away while waiting for the screening by the Senate, that information was not communicated to the federal government.

“His remains are not yet buried. May his soul rest in peace.”
