The police in Abuja have given the procedure that must be followed for them to intervene in the rape allegations surrounding the founder of the Common Wealth of Zion, Biodun Fatoyinbo.
Recall that Celebrity Photographer, Biodun Fatoyinbo had in a video narrated how the pastor raped her on two occasions in the space of four days in teenage years.
After which #IstandwithBusolaDakolo began to trend on the popular social media, facebook, twitter and Instagram to mention among others.
Of other reactions, mentioned are a coalition of Lawyers who suggested that the Pastor be invited by the Police over the allegations as some quarters have also corroborated Busola’s testimony by revealing stories of how the same pastor allegedly raped another victim.
Police commissioner Bala Ciroma told Premium Times on Saturday that the police usually require complaints from victims or witnesses or both to proceed with rape charges.
“They should file a formal complaint,” Mr Ciroma said. “And then the police can see how to proceed from there.”
Recall that the COZA founder has since denied the allegations on Friday, saying in an official church statement that he had never raped a woman “even as an unbeliever.”
Mr Fatoyinbo further threatened to sue Mrs. Dakolo and others he accused of defaming his character, adding that many of the sexual misconduct claims he had faced over the years had come from scorned women within his ministry.
However Nigerians have massively supported the Timi Dakolo and his wife for their courage, and called for Mr Fatoyinbo’s arrest and prosecution have also intensified on social media.
But the police have required a formally filed complaint before taking any action on the case.
It is not clear whether the Dakolos have reported the matter to the police.
Mr Dakolo did not immediately return messages seeking comments about this on Saturday morning.
Rape is a serious crime under Nigeria’s federal and state laws, and could attract long sentences for anyone convicted.
