The Ogun State command of the Nigeria Police Force has deployed a total of 7,777 officers throughout the state to bolster the security of individuals and property during the Christmas and New Year festivities, as well as beyond.
This development was conveyed in a statement issued to the press on Monday by the command’s spokesperson, SP Omolola Odutola.
The State Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, is reportedly at the helm of a specialized task force.
Recognizing the heightened risk of criminal activities during the holiday season, the command has intensified its security protocols, including the establishment of additional checkpoints and increased patrols across the state.
The command indicated that both uniformed and plainclothes officers would be strategically positioned to deter criminal activity and provide reassurance to the public regarding their safety.
Naija News understands that notable locations such as places of worship, parks, recreational areas, government facilities, banks, and the residences of diplomats will see a significant police presence.
Odutola further stated that high-risk zones, which have experienced threats in the past, including Long Bridge along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Rounder in Abeokuta, Sapaade, Ogunmakin, and others, will be closely monitored by armoured patrol units.
She said, “Additionally, specialised units like SWAT, Anti-Cultism and Anti-Kidnapping will conduct regular patrols around educational institutions.”
The police underscored their commitment to a zero-tolerance approach regarding any criminal actions that may interfere with year-end celebrations.
They cautioned individuals with criminal intentions to reconsider their choices or prepare to face the stringent consequences of the law.
Additionally, the authorities called upon drivers to prioritize safety and demonstrate patience at roadblocks, which are established for the collective welfare of the community.
Odutola added, “The command is working alongside other security agencies to provide a comprehensive security strategy aimed at ensuring peace and safety in Ogun State during this festive season.
“The public is encouraged to cooperate with security agents and respect the personnel on duty, who are working hard to keep everyone safe. Adhering to these security protocols will greatly contribute to maintaining a safe environment during the holidays.
“The Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo PhD, will be actively overseeing operations and coordinating with Area Commanders to support officers, with a force of 7,777 police officers deployed across the state.
“The Operations Department is well-equipped to respond firmly to all threats.”
