There was jubilation galore in the camp of the All Progressive Congress (APC) as the Ebonyi Governorship Election Petition Tribunal affirmed the victory of Governor Francis Nwifuru.
Naija News recalls that the Tribunal, sitting in Abuja, on Wednesday, affirmed the election of Nwifuru and also dismissed the petitions of the PDP and its governorship candidate, Ifeanyi Odii, and that of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) and its governorship candidate, Bernard Odoh.
Both the PDP and APGA had dragged Nwifuru, who was declared winner of the March 18 governorship polls in the state, to court to challenge his victory.
According to the PDP and its candidate, Nwifuru, the flagbearer of the All Progressives Congress (APC), was at the time of the election not qualified to contest on the platform of the APC because he was still a member of the PDP.
However, the Tribunal’s three-member panel headed by Justice Lekan Ogunmoye held that there was no evidence from the petitioner to prove non-compliance with the Electoral Act in the election.
While the PDP has vowed to appeal the judgment with the optimism of reclaiming their mandate, Political Analyst and APC stalwart, Kachukwu Emmanuel, applauded the Tribunal’s verdict.
He said it was well-deserved because the people voted for Nwifuru during the governorship polls.
Emmanuel expressed joy, stating there had been jubilation everywhere since the judgment, and it’s evidence of the people’s support for the Governor.
He told journalists, “People voted for him, and there are no two ways about it. This jubilation is purely a show of love. We are happy with the ruling. Congratulations to him and APC.”
Meanwhile, the Deputy State Chairman of the PDP, Ifeanyi Nworie, said the judgment was not acceptable to the party.
Nworie, a Legal practitioner and a PDP Legal team member, vowed that the party would move to a higher Court for justice.
“I call our supporter to remain calm, and we are determined to get justice and reclaim our mandate at the higher court,” he added.
On his part, the Secretary of PDP in the state, Mr. Ogbuefi Zaccheaus, decried the judgment and noted that the party is still hopeful at the appeal court.
