Contrary to calls against attempt to extend the tenure of the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to extend the IG’s tenure.
Alhaji Sanusi Ajiya, the Deputy National Chairman (North) of PCRC, made this appealed on Monday in Abuja after a peaceful march to the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation in Abuja.
Naija News understands that the IG. would be retiring on January 15. after is 35 years mandatory service.
He was represented by Prof. Nick Eze, National Vice chairman of PCRC.
Ajiya, while listing the achievement of the IG. in the area of security, stated that the President has the authority to extend the tenure of the police boss.
He added that crimes including kidnapping, armed robbery, cattle rustling among other have been curtailed under the Idris’ leadership.
“We appeal to President Buhari in the interest of Nigerians to extend his tenure of office, we need him at this critical time in the country,” he said.
Ajiya stated further that the extension of tenure was not new or strange, as previous governments have done that.
According to him, those calling for the retirement of Ibrahim Idris are selfish people, who do not have the interest of the country at heart.
