Pay Staff Their Salaries Or Resign - Gov Nwifuru Issues 24-Hour Ultimatum To LG Chairs

The Governor of Ebonyi State, Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, has given chairmen of 13 local government areas in the state, 24 hours to pay all council staff their salaries or resign from office.

Francis Nwifuru also directed the chairmen of the 13 council areas to settle all outstanding pensions by Monday (today), December 23.

He issued the ultimatum on Sunday during the Elders and Widows’ Party organized by the state government at the Christian Ecumenical Centre in Abakaliki.

The Governor, who expressed displeasure with the report that council workers are owed October and November salaries, described the situation as unacceptable and emphasized his administration’s commitment to delivering governance anchored on the Charter of Needs Agenda.

By 2 PM tomorrow (today, Monday 23 December), all staff of the Local Government should receive their salaries and pensions.

“If staff are not paid October and November salaries by that time, the chairmen should resign,” he declared.

Governor Nwifuru reiterated his dedication to the social contract with the people. He warned against any attempts to sabotage his administration’s efforts.

According to The Nation, Ebonyi State Governor also announced a welfare package for 5,000 elders and widows present at the event, including ₦50,000, a 25kg bag of rice, and a wrapper for each beneficiary.
