Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo will be in Monrovia, Liberia today to represent President Muhammadu Buhari at the launch of the year-long commemoration of the country’s Bicentennial Anniversary.
The VP who reportedly departed Abuja this morning will join other leaders across Africa and beyond at the event scheduled to hold today at the Samuel K. Doe Stadium.
Naija News understands that Osinbajo is accompanied to the event by the Minister of State, Foreign Affairs, Zubairu Dada and Special Adviser to the President on Economic Matters, Adeyemi Dipeolu.
Before his expected return back to Nigeria on Tuesday, February 15, Osinbajo will also attend other events on Monday in Monrovia as part of the national celebrations.
History has its that Liberia was founded in 1822 when freed black people started relocating to West Africa from the United States.
The country proclaimed its independence and became the Republic of Liberia on July 26, 1847.
In another news earlier, Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom has reacted angrily to the decision of some Air Force security operatives who prevented him from receiving Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on Saturday.
Naija News reports that Osinbajo was on his way to Wukari in Taraba State to attend the convocation of the Federal University, Wukari.
He, however, had a transit stopover at Benue and Ortom went to the Air Force Base to receive him but was not granted access by the security team on the ground.
This made the Benue Governor furious and sad as he angrily declared that someone must pay for it. He declared the action of the security operatives as politics taken too far.
Addressing journalists at the Government House in Makurdi, Ortom said: “How can I go to the Air Force base and I am bounced back? In my State? It’s politics taken too far and somebody was account for it.
“I feel so sad that there are certain things you don’t play politics with it and I must continue to talk about this injustice.”
