The PUNCH: The Federal Government may incur additional N315bn in wage bill in the next six months for the newly introduced allowance for federal workers, findings by The PUNCH have shown. This came as Organised Labour agreed to suspend its proposed nationwide strike for 30 days, following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the Federal Government after a marathon meeting that ended around 11pm on Tuesday.
The Guardian: The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) in its Food Price Watch report released yesterday, indicated a continuous increase in food prices in August, detailing how the prices of beef, tomatoes, beans, garri, yam and other food items increased for the month. The report stated that while the average price of 1kg of boneless beef was ₦2,141.18 in August 2022, it increased by 30.75 per cent to ₦2,799.51 in August 2023.
Vanguard: Organised Labour last night suspended its planned nationwide strike for one month following an agreement with the Federal Government. Though details of the Memorandum of Understanding suspending the strike, were sketchy at the time of this report, the agreement, Vanguard gathered, was reached very late at night.
The Nation: The Chicago State University (CSU) has responded to the request by former vice president Atiku Abubakar in line with an Illinois, United States (U.S.) court order. In its compliance with the September 30 judgment by Justice Nancy Maldonado of the Northern District of Illinois Court, the CSU insisted that it does not keep copies of diploma certificates issued to students.
Daily Trust: The organised Labour says it has suspended the indefinite strike called over nationwide hardship. Labour had directed its affiliate member Unions across the country to mobilise and shut down the country following the refusal of government to adhere to the seven points demand made by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) to ameliorate the suffering of workers.
