The PUNCH: Nigeria’s July inflation rate jumped to 19.64 per cent from 18.60 per cent in June, signaling a looming cost of living crisis in Africa’s most populous nation. According to the National Bureau of Statistics, the 19.64 per cent inflation represents the country’s highest inflation in 17 years.
This Day: National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Iyorchia Ayu, yesterday, dismissed speculations about his status as the leader of the party, saying he has not resigned and would not be forced to resign now, because he was elected for a four-year tenure.
The Nation: The peace talks between the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, and Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike suffered a setback yesterday because Atiku’s negotiation team did not show up. The hitch was attributed to a traditional event in Yola, Adamawa State capital, which Atiku attended.
Daily Trust: Nigeria’s headline inflation has increased to 19.64 per cent in July, bringing the country’s inflation figure to the highest recorded since 2005, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has disclosed. In a report it released Monday, the NBS said the figure was 2.27 per cent higher compared to 17.38 per cent recorded in July 2021.
Daily Sun: Worried by the rising wave of insecurity in the country, the Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG), yesterday, resolved to meet with governors from the region on how to end the menace.
