The PUNCH: A joint operation launched by the Department of State Services, the National Intelligence Agency, the police and other security agencies has successfully dismantled a terror cell and arrested five Islamic State West Africa Province commanders and 30 fighters.
The Guardian: Despite repeated assurances by government, insecurity fears heightened, yesterday, at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), as the United Kingdom (UK) updated its earlier travel advice of October 26 to British nationals in the country, warning against travelling to the nation’s capital, Abuja. The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) of the British High Commission advised against all, but essential travel, to FCT. The updated advice outlines that there is an increased threat of terrorist attack in Abuja.
The Nation: Political parties were in a fix yesterday over the call to put their campaigns on hold. A former Foreign Affairs Minister, Prof Bolaji Akinyemi, said the parties should suspend their campaigns for next year’s general elections, following security alerts issued to some expatriates in the country. The All Progressives Congress (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) were in a quandary over the call.
Daily Trust: The governments of Germany, Bulgaria, Ireland and Denmark have cautioned their citizens against non-essential travel to Abuja, Nigeria’s capital over a heightened risk of terror attacks. The travel advisories came a few days after the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia and Canada had warned of a possible terror attack in Abuja.
