Ifeanyi Ubah Dumps YPP, Joins New Political Party
The Anambra South Senator-elect, Ifeanyi Ubah, has dumped the Young Peoples Party (YPP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC). Ubah’s defection was made known by the National Chairman of the APC, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole on Monday.
Oshiohmole informed the APC National Working Committee members, returning/newly-elected senators at the Presidential Villa, on Monday, that Ubah was now with the ruling party, NAN reports. Describing Ubah as a ‘smart politician Oshiomhole in his opening remark, said the “YPP Senator-elect from Anambra South has decided to pitch tent with the ruling party because he felt more comfortable with the winning team.”
APC Takes Fresh Step Against Atiku
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has taken another step against the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Atiku Abubakar. Naija News understands that the step against the presidential candidate of the opposition party is not unconnected to the recent legal actions by Atiku, questioning the outcome of the Presidential election that saw President Buhari as the winner while Atiku believes that the results must be subjected to critical scrutiny.
In its recent move, the APC has through its Presidential Campaign Council, petitioned the Inspector General of Police, IGP, Mohammed Adamu and the Director-General, Department of State Service (DSS), Yusuf Magaji Bichi to urgently investigate into the supposed hacking of the server of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), by the PDP.
The petition issued and sent by the Director, Strategic Communications, APC Presidential Campaign Council, Festus Keyamo, said the leadership of the PDP must be invited, interrogated and investigated and that those identified as perpetrators must be arrested and prosecuted.
Buhari Group Faults Ex-President Obasanjo On Atiku
The Buhari Support Organization (BSO) has criticised former President Olusegun Obasanjo over his recent statements on the political developments in Nigeria. Obasanjo had in a statement he personally signed, condemned those insinuating that PDP presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar should not head to court
But, Enugu BSO, reacting through its Secretary, Barrister Godwin Onwusi, said “For us in the BSO, the international community, patriots and eminent statesmen like His Excellency, Ibrahim Babangida and Olisa Agbakoba, SAN, who advised Atiku not to head to presidential election tribunal are better friends of Atiku than Obasanjo.
Ndume Writes Oshiomhole, APC Over Interest In Senate Presidency
Former Senate Leader, Senator Ali Ndume (APC-Borno South) has written the National Chairman of the APC, Adams Oshiomhole, to inform him of his intention to run for the office of the President of the Senate of the ninth National Assembly.
In a letter of intent dated March 25, 2019, and addressed to Oshiomhole, the lawmaker specifically sought the blessing of the party to actualise his aspiration.
Ndume said he is “throwing his hat into the ring believing that the Senate President position would be zoned to the North East geopolitical zone” where he hails from. He said the decision to seek election into the office was borne out of his desire to help accelerate socioeconomic development of the nation.
Fayose Reacts As Court Sacks Zamfara APC Guber Candidates
Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has commended the court of Appeal for nullifying the participation of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2019 elections in Zamfara State.Recall that the Court of Appeal sitting in Sokoto led by Justice Tom Yakubu, had on Monday, set aside the judgement of a Zamfara High Court on the APC primaries that produced the party’s candidates for the governorship, National and State Assembly elections.
In a statement to Naija News on Sunday by his spokesperson, Lere Olayinka, the former governor urged INEC to demonstrate courage by presenting certificates of return to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship, National Assembly and State House of Assembly candidates in Zamfara State.
National Assembly: We Have No Plan To Share Power With PDP – Oshiomhole
The ruling All Progressives Congress has declared that it has no plan to share the leadership positions in the National Assembly with the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party. National Chairman of the APC, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole gave the insight on Monday during a meeting of the party with House of rep members for the ninth national assemably elected on the platform of the party.
Naija News recalls Senator Bukola Saraki, while in the APC, negotiated a power-sharing formula with the PDP which allowed him to become President of the Senate and Senator Ike Ekweremadu emerged Deputy President of the Senate.
However, Oshiomhole while speaking on Monday, said the party will not allow what happened in 2015 to reoccur in 2019 as the party will need a collaborative legislature to provide good governance to the people, adding that the leadership of the Assembly give all committee members critical positions as committee chairmen.
Rivers State: Deputy Governorship Candidate Of AAC Defects To PDP
The Deputy Governorship candidate of the African Action Alliance in Rivers State, Akpo Bomba has announced his resignation from AAC and defected to the Peoples Democratic Party. Naija News recalls the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi had adopted the party after the All Progressives Congress was stopped from the Governorship race.
This is coming a few days after there were reports that PDP in the state is planning to lure Akpo with huge sums of money and other side attractions. Though he denied the allegation, the Deputy Governorship candidate of AAC has maintained his stance to leave the party.
Akpo in the letter that was written to the governorship candidate of AAC in Rivers State, Biopkomabo Awara stated that his decision to leave the party was due to the alleged hijack of the party by APC in the state.
FG To Reactivate National Carrier Project
The Federal Government has revealed plans to reactivate the National carrier that was earlier suspended. Naija News understands that the minister of state for aviation, Hadi Sirika made this known on Monday while defending the ministry’s budget before the Senate committee on aviation in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.
Sirika said plans were underway by the Federal Government to revisit the national carrier project. He said that the ministry only suspended the project to put adequate measures in place, promising that the project would be delivered soon. Siriki promised to keep alive the project of the national carrier which he said President Muhammadu Buhari is the brain behind.He expressed concerns over the fact that Nigeria could not boast of a national carrier despite the huge aviation market.
Buhari Speaks On Atiku’s Suit Against Presidential Election
President Muhammadu Buhari has finally spoken on the decision of the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar to challenge the outcome of the February presidential election results in court.
Naija News reports that President Buhari through the Buhari Media Organisation (BMO) says Abubakar Atiku’s suit challenging the victory of President Muhammadu Buhari would fail because it lacks merit. The BMO made this known in a statement signed by its chairman Niyi Akinsiju and Secretary, Cassidy Madueke on Monday in Abuja. The statement stressed that the suit by the opposition was a waste of time.
The group re-emphasised that Atiku knew that he had no chance of victory even before the elections and is only attempting this suit to hoodwink Nigerians and ultimately waste the time of the country’s judiciary.
