The detained former governor of Imo State Rochas Okorocha has requested a Federal High Court in Abuja to compel the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to release him on bail immediately.
Okorocha’s bail plea was based on the fact that he is a presidential candidate, running on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and that his political ambitions would be jeopardized if he was not given bail.
The bail application was filed earlier today with Justice Inyang Eden Ekwo, and a decision is expected any moment from now.
Okorocha was scheduled to appear in court twice for arraignment on N2.9 billion money laundering accusations before the same judge, but he declined.
Three days ago, EFCC operatives raided his Abuja home, and arrested and detained him in order to ensure his appearance in court on Monday, May 30 to take his plea in the fraud charges.
