Mikel Arteta Responds To Amorim’s Set-pieces Comment After Arsenal Win Over United

Why Edu Resigned As Arsenal's Sporting Director - Arteta

Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta has addressed Ruben Amorim’s comments regarding their effectiveness from set-pieces after the Gunners secured a victory against Manchester United, scoring from two dead-ball situations.

Jurrien Timber sparked the scoring just nine minutes into the second half with a well-executed corner kick taken by Declan Rice. The team then doubled their lead as William Saliba capitalized on a clever play when Thomas Partey redirected Bukayo Saka’s corner into a crowded six-yard box.

This victory marked a significant achievement for Arsenal, bringing their set-piece tally to 22 goals since the beginning of last season, making them the most productive English team in this aspect.

Amorim suggested that Arsenal’s wingers, Saka and Gabriel Martinelli, intentionally pursue corners by effectively engaging opposition full-backs and drawing them toward the sidelines.

In response, Mikel Arteta acknowledged the importance of diverse scoring methods, stating, “Last year, we set a record for goals scored in the history of this football club.

“Our success isn’t solely due to set pieces but rather a combination of various elements. We’re focused on fostering individual brilliance and creating magical moments. Our players can generate their scoring opportunities.

“We aim to be versatile, whether through quick counters, deliberate build-ups, or set plays. Every aspect of play is an opportunity to explore and expand upon. We are committed to continuous improvement and maximizing our potential.”
