Gareth Bale scored his 100th goal for Real Madrid to help secure a 3-1 win over Atletico Madrid at the Wanda Metropolitano.
The victory over their city rivals moved them up to second in La Liga standings.
The Galacticos claimed a morale-boosting 1-1 draw at Barcelona in the Copa del Rey semi-final first leg in midweek and they produced another top class performance to beat Diego Simeone’s men on their own turf for the first time since their meeting at the Vicente Calderon in November 2016.
Antoine Griezmann scored an equalizer after Casemiro netted a spectacular opener with Sergio Ramos‘s penalty giving Los Blancos a 2-1 lead.
Real Madrid looked in control at the back in the second half despite pressure from Atletico and finished off their opponents 16 minutes from time through substitute Bale’s landmark goal, before Thomas Partey’s late sending off.
Not only did Madrid deserve their victory, but the manner of the win was also particularly impressive.
