Real Madrid striker Kylian Mbappe has lamented over his team’s recent 2-1 defeat against Athletic Club on Wednesday night, acknowledging his part in the unexpected loss.
Despite a challenging week marked by missing his second penalty, Kylian Mbappe remains determined to turn the situation around.
The match saw Athletic Club take the lead with an impressive goal from Alex Berenguer in the 53rd minute. Mbappe had an opportunity to equalize from the penalty spot but his effort was saved by Julen Agirrezabala.
However, Real Madrid managed to find hope in the 78th minute when Jude Bellingham scored from a rebound, leveling the match temporarily. 
Unfortunately, a lapse in concentration by Federico Valverde allowed Gorka Guruzeta to score the decisive goal just a minute later, sealing Madrid’s fourth defeat in their last seven matches across all competitions.
Reflecting on the outcome, Mbappe took to Instagram to write: “It’s a tough result, and I recognize my part in it. In a match where every detail is crucial, we must learn from our mistakes. Though this is a difficult moment, it’s also an opportunity to show resilience and character moving forward.”
With this loss, Real Madrid missed a chance to close the gap on league leaders Barcelona, who currently lead with 37 points. Real Madrid sits in second place with 33 points while Athletic Club hold fourth place with 29 points.
The Spanish giants are now focused on turning their fortunes around in the upcoming matches, starting with their La Liga clash against Girona on Saturday, December 7.
