Kenneth Okonkwo Reveals How AU, ECOWAS Can End Coups In Africa

Labour Party (LP) chieftain, Kenneth Okonkwo, has identified two major problems with African democracy after the Gabon military coup.

Naija News reports that this comes after a former Kaduna lawmaker, Shehu Sani, said poisoned elections are responsible for coups, stressing that it is important to stop asking why coups are happening but address the challenge causing it.

In a post via Twitter, Kenneth corroborated the claims of Sani, stating that sit-tight leaders and rigging elections are significant challenges to African democracy.

The thespian suggested that if the African Union (AU) and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) want to end coups in Africa, they must end the era of sit-tight leaders and election rigging.

He tweeted, “The problem with African democracy is sit tight leaders and rigging of elections.

“If AU and ECOWAS want an end to coups in Africa, they should end the era of sit-tight leaders and rigging of elections now, as all of them are different forms of unconstitutional takeover of power.”
