The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has not extended the deadline for the ongoing Continous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.
This was made known by Mr. Rotimi Oyekanmi, the chief press secretary to the INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu.
It will be recalled that INEC had fixed June 30, 2022, as the deadline to end the current CVR exercise but speculations had risen about a possible extension after the recent surge in the number of interested potential registrants.
Following the surge, some reports emerged particularly online that the deadline for the CVR exercise has been extended by INEC to August 31, 2022.
Reacting to the reports, Oyekanmi however stated that there is no extension, adding that the deadline for the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) is still 30th June while the online pre-registration service closed on 30th May.
He said: “No. It is not true. The deadline for the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) is still 30th June. The online pre-registration service closed since 30th May.
“What the Commission has done to respond to the surge in numbers of those who want to register, is to deploy more INEC Voter Enrollment Devices (IVEDs) to areas where the pressure is highest.
“These areas are all the states in the South-East region, Kano, Lagos and the FCT.”
