President Muhammadu Buhari said God has helped Nigeria to bounce back after a failed attempt by some unnamed individuals to destroy the country.
President Buhari who stated this in Damaturu, the Yobe State capital on Monday, thanked the police and members of the armed forces for their efforts in safeguarding the country.
Recall that long before President Buhari took over power in 2015, the northeast region was bedeviled by terrorism which led to the death of thousands of people, the destruction of both public and private properties, and the total shutdown of some parts of the region.
However, in recent times, normalcy has largely been reported in the region as many internally displaced persons have returned to their homes.
While speaking at the palace of the Emir of Damaturu, Hashimi II El-Kanemi on Monday, according to a statement signed by the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, President Buhari said: “There was a deliberate attempt to destroy Nigeria but God did not permit it.”
He added that “God has helped Nigeria to bounce back.”
The president thanked Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State and his Borno State counterpart, Prof Babagana Zulum for their investment in infrastructure since normalcy returned to the northeast.
Buhari who played an active role in ending the Nigerian civil war (1967 to 1970), said no one who was part of the war would “allow anybody to fiddle with this country again.”
