Former PDP Chairman, Senator Emma Nwaka Joins APC

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has bolstered its ranks in Abia State with the defection of former state chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Emma Nwaka.

Nwaka’s move to the APC comes six months after he quietly resigned from the PDP on June 12, 2024, a decision he later made public on August 30, citing “personal reasons.”

The former PDP governorship aspirant for the 2023 general election was officially welcomed into the APC by the party’s chairman for Oguduasa Ward 5, Sampson Achi Ndukwe, who presented him with an APC membership card.

The APC chairman for Isuikwuato Local Government, Chief Udochi Okorie, and other party officials witnessed the ceremony.

Nwaka’s defection was first hinted at when a photograph of him receiving an APC membership card surfaced online, sparking discussions about his political future.

His political aide confirmed the development to journalists on Saturday, promising that the senator would address the public with his decision soon.

Abia PDP has seen a wave of defections since losing its over 20-year grip on the state to the Labour Party in the 2023 governorship election.

Several high-profile figures, including Chinedum Orji, former Speaker of the State House of Assembly, have left the party, many finding a new home in the APC.

Nwaka served as the chairman of Abia PDP from 2010 to 2015, a period during which the party held a dominant position in the state’s political landscape.

His departure signals a further shift in the balance of power within Abia’s political scene.
