Its no longer new that the Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun, tendered her resignation letter on Friday, over two months after it became public knowledge that her NYSC certificate was forged.
President Muhammadu Buhari had to bow to pressure to let her off when it became obvious that the scandal was going to be a stain on Buhari administration’s stance on integrity.
Here are five key points Kemi Adeosun said in her resignation letter:
1. She admits her NYSC certificate is not genuine
I have, today, become privy to the findings of the investigation into the allegation made in an online medium that the Certificate of Exemption from National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) that I had presented was not genuine.
2. She was deceived by her trusted associate
On the basis of that advice and with the guidance and assistance of those, I thought were trusted associates, NYSC were approached for documentary proof of status. I then received the certificate in question. Having never worked in NYSC, visited the premises, been privy to nor familiar with their operations, I had no reason to suspect that the certificate was anything but genuine.
3. Adeosun Thanks President Buhari for allowing her work under his leadership
Your Excellency, It has been an exceptional privilege to have served our nation under your leadership and to have played a role in steering our economy at a very challenging time.
