World Football governing body, FIFA has cleared Leicester City winger Ademola Lookman to switch his allegiance from England to Nigeria.
The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) President, Amaju Pinnick, confirmed the development in a tweet via his Twitter handle on Thursday.
Naija News reports that Lookman, who had earlier indicated his interest to represent Nigeria, was part of England’s title win at the 2017 Under-20 World Cup.
The 24-year-old, who was born to Nigerian parents, has not played for England’s senior team and might make his debut for the Super Eagles of Nigeria very soon. Lookman was born in Peckham, London and is on loan at Leicester from RB Leipzig.
According to the NFF President, Lookman can now wear the Nigerian jersey and feature for the Super Eagles.
Pinnick added that he can’t wait for the 24-year-old to make his debut for the Super Eagles in the nearest future.
He wrote: “I’m also glad to announce that the work we’ve put in has ensured that on-loan Leicester City winger, Ademola Lookman’s application to change his nationality and represent Nigeria has been approved by FIFA.
“Lookman was part of England’s title win at the 2017 U-20 World Cup & brings a winning mentality to our team. I can’t wait to see him make our Super Eagles that more formidable.”
Good day Nigeria.
First off, I would like to thank our magnificent group of players, technical team and backroom staff for their stellar work at the just concluded 33rd AFCON. We played that competition to win it, but sometimes, you also need a bit of luck. After three wins…
