Court Upholds Fayemi’s Victory In Ekiti State

The Supreme Court has on Friday, delivered judgement on the 2018 governorship election in Ekiti state which produced Governor Kayode Fayemi as the winner.

The apex court, in a unanimous judgment on Friday, upheld Fayemi’s election as the governor of Ekiti State, The Nation reports.

A five-man panel of the court dismissed the appeal filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate in the last governorship election in Ekiti, Kolapo Olusola Eleka.

Delivering the lead judgement, Justice John Okoro, said the appeal by PDP and Eleka was unmeritorious and proceeded to uphold an earlier judgment by the Court of Appeal, Abuja, which affirmed the decision of the election tribunal, that Fayemi was duly elected.

Naija News recalls the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared Fayemi and APC polled a total of 197,459 votes to defeated Olusola-Eleka and the PDP who placed second with 178,121 votes in the July 14, 2018 election.
