Former Minister of Aviation Femi Fani-Kayode has said the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) will regret the appointment of President Muhammadu Buhari.
Reacting to Buhari’s appointment in a post on his Twitter page, Fani-Kayode described it as a mistake.
According to the chieftain of the PDP, Buhari can barely manage himself, hence the possibility of managing a sub-region was in doubt.
He wrote: “The greatest mistake that the ECOWAS leaders have made is to appoint Buhari as the leader of the fight against COVID-19.
“This is a cataclysmic error which they will deeply regret. He can barely manage himself and now you ask him to manage a sub-region of 400 million people?”
Naija News recalls that ECOWAS leaders had appointed President Muhammadu Buhari to lead the battle against the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic in the sub-region.
The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, confirmed this at the end of the extraordinary summit of the Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West Africa States (ECOWAS) Thursday.
This online news platform understands that the summit of the Heads of State and Government of ECOWAS was convened by the regional leaders to deliberate on the COVID-19 pandemic which has continued to ravage humanity worldwide.
The Presidential media aide said the regional leaders discussed the challenges posed by COVID-19 and how best to tackle the deadly virus.
“The West African leaders discussed how to tackle the period of COVID-19 and what to do post-COVID-19.
“Now, at the end of it all, it was decided that there should a champion who would lead the response of the sub-region and that champion is President Muhammadu Buhari of Nigeria.
“So, our president is going to lead the response of West Africa to the challenge of COVID-19,’’ he said.
