Former Super Eagles forward Brown Ideye is on the brink of finalizing a transfer to a Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) club, Rivers United.
Brown Ideye commenced training sessions with the Port Harcourt-based club earlier this week, indicating his strong interest in the move.
Ahead of Rivers United’s clash with Niger Tornadoes on Sunday, the head coach of Rivers United, Finidi George, expressed optimism about the striker’s potential addition to the team.
“There is every likelihood that he’ll join us. He wants to give back to the community and the sport, which is the most important thing,” Finidi said.
He added, “He has that hunger; we’ve witnessed it with players like Ahmed Musa [at Kano Pillars]. If Brown is willing to bring that same energy and enthusiasm, we would certainly welcome him with open arms.”
Brown Ideye’s football journey includes an illustrious tenure with the Super Eagles, where he was part of the victorious squad that clinched the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations title in South Africa.
Throughout his career, he has showcased his talents in some of Europe’s top leagues, playing in countries such as France, Ukraine, England, Greece, and Switzerland, gaining invaluable experience that he hopes to leverage at Rivers United.
The potential signing of such a seasoned player could significantly bolster the club’s performance in the NPFL this season.
