English Premier League (EPL) club, Tottenham Hotspur have strengthened their roster by acquiring goalkeeper Antonín Kinský from Slavia Prague for a fee of £12.5 million.
The Czech Republic U21 international has signed a contract that extends until 2031, addressing the need for additional support in a position affected by injuries.
The club has encountered a goalkeeping dilemma, as first-choice Guglielmo Vicario is currently out with an ankle injury, and Fraser Forster was unable to participate in the 2-1 loss to Newcastle due to illness. Consequently, 25-year-old Brandon Austin was compelled to make his senior club debut in goal without any other seasoned alternatives.
The 21-year-old goalkeeper will don the number 31 jersey as part of his agreement, which is set to last until 2031.
“We are delighted to announce the signing of Antonín Kinský from SK Slavia Prague, subject to international clearance and work permit,” a statement from Tottenham reads on the club’s official website on Sunday.
Antonín, who was born and raised in Prague, Czech Republic, commenced his football career with local clubs FC Tempo Prague, Bohemians Prague 1905, and FK Dukla Prague, making his senior debut with the latter in July 2020.
In July 2021, he signed with Slavia Prague and joined the B team, where he made nine appearances during his inaugural season.
For the latter half of the 2021/22 season, he was loaned to MFK Vyskov, where he played 13 matches. Antonín subsequently returned for another loan period ahead of the next season, bringing his total appearances for the Czech club to 47 across all competitions.
In July 2023, he moved to FK Pardubice on a season-long loan, making his debut in the Czech First League (Chance Liga) that same month and featuring 18 times throughout the season.
Upon returning to Slavia Prague for the 2024/25 season, he has already made 29 appearances across various competitions, including the Czech First League (Chance Liga), UEFA Europa League, and UEFA Champions League qualifiers, achieving 14 clean sheets.
Having represented the Czech Republic at youth levels from Under-15 to Under-21, Antonín received his first senior call-ups in preparation for the UEFA Nations League matches scheduled for October and November 2024.
His arrival is particularly timely as Spurs look to bolster their squad amid injuries and a decline in performance affecting their campaign.
Kinský’s transfer to North London marks the club’s first acquisition of the January transfer window as they work to fill gaps in their lineup, particularly in attack and midfield.
Tottenham supporters will be optimistic that the Czech goalkeeper can provide stability as the team strives to overcome their recent challenges.
