Uche Anichukwu, the Media Aide to former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, has refused to confirm if it was his principal that was arrested in the United Kingdom.
Naija News had earlier reported that a Nigerian named Ike Ekweremadu and his wife, Beatrice, were arrested in London by the Specialist Crime Team of the UK Metropolitan Police for alleged conspiracy to harvest the organ of a child.
In a statement on Thursday, the Metropolitan Police confirmed that the pair conspired to facilitate the travel of a child to the country in order to harvest the minor’s organ.
The police added that the investigation was launched after detectives were alerted to potential offences under modern slavery legislation in May 2022.
It stated that the child was in protective custody, while the police added that its operatives are working closely with partners on continued support.
However, the pair, who were charged before Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court following an investigation by the Uk Metropolitan Police, have been denied bail and remanded till July 7.
In a chat with Vanguard on Thursday, Anichukwu refused to confirm the story making the rounds that his boss was arrested in the UK.
As of the time of filing this report, Ekweremadu’s media has failed to issue a statement on the matter.
