Adhoc officials have arrived and commenced setting up election materials at a RAC in Ward 7 Unit 3 of Egor Local Government Area, in the southern part of Edo State, ahead of today’s governorship polls.
Naija News reports that over two million and six hundred eligible electorates across the 18 local government areas of the state are expected to troop out en mass today to exercise their civic rights.
Edo State is currently full of tension as residents prepare to vote in today’s off-cycle governorship election.
Armed security officials have manned strategic locations from Benin to Auchi, Ekpoma, Irrua, Igueben, Uromi, and other towns and villages in Edo State to maintain law and order before, during and after the election.
The Defence Headquarters previously announced the deployment of soldiers to collaborate with police and other security personnel to maintain order.
Additionally, operatives from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) are present to prevent politicians from exerting financial influence over the election.
Naija News reports that while 18 parties have put forth candidates for the election, the contest appears to be primarily a three-way battle between Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party (LP).
This election follows several weeks of vigorous campaigning, heated exchanges, and extensive travel across Edo State by various political factions.
