The Department of State Service (DSS) on Friday threatened to go after all subversive elements creating problems in Nigeria.
This is coming after operatives of the secret police arrested an aide to a controversial Islamic cleric, Sheikh Abubakar Ahmad Gumi, Tukur Mamu.
DSS had claimed that Mamu has links with local and international terrorists, the development saw DSS approach a court to detain him for sixty more days.
With the Director-General of DSS, Yusuf Magaji Bichi, threatening to go after others linked with terrorists, there are indications that Kaduna-based Islamic cleric, Gumi, and others might be arrested.
A source in DSS that spoke with Leadership said Gumi has been going around condemning the arrest and detention of Mamu.
According to the source, the action of Gumi can make him a person of interest.
The source who spoke on condition of anonymity said, “Mamu who is a close associate of Gumi was found with $151,000, military accoutrements, gun magazines and other incriminating items and yet Gumi is talking about his release instead of allowing justice to take its cause”.
Tukur Mamu: DSS Asked Arrest Gumi Over Links With Terrorists
The Department of State Services (DSS) has been asked to immediately arrest a Kaduna-based Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi.
The Civil Society Organisation, under the auspices of the Coalition for Peace In Nigeria (COPIN), made this known in a statement on Monday by the National Coordinator, Emeka Akwuobi, and Secretary of the group, Fatih Yakub, respectively.
According to the group, Gumi’s alleged romance with bandits and terrorists was the reason for their call to the secret police to arrest, interrogate and prosecute the Islamic scholar.
The group asserted that the Islamic scholar has a lot of explanations to offer on the activities of bandits, especially those operating within the North West region.
