Dino Melaye Loses Kogi Governorship Election In His Local Government To APC

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the 2023 Kogi State governorship election, Dino Melaye has been defeated in his local government area of Ijumu.

According to the results announced on Sunday by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Melaye was defeated by the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Usman Ododo.

Ododo, the APC candidate got 10,524 votes while Melaye of the PDP got 6,909 votes.

Accredited voters: 20,405

ADC: 1,898

APC: 10,524

PDP: 6,909

SDP: 356

Valid votes: 19,991

Rejected votes: 348

Total votes cast: 20,375

INEC Sends Warning To Party Agents Amid Anxiety At Result Collation Center

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Resident Electoral Commissioner in charge of the Kogi State off-cycle governorship election, Dr Gabriel Longpet, has issued a stern warning to party agents, emphasizing the importance of maintaining order and not causing any disruptions during the collation of results.

Speaking to stakeholders prior to the commencement of the collation exercise at the INEC office in Lokoja, the state capital, Longpet emphasized that they were strictly adhering to the established rules and regulations governing the conduct of the exercise.

On his part, Kogi State Returning Officer, Professor Johnson Ozoemenan Urama, said during the collation of election results that as electoral officials, they have taken an oath of neutrality.

He called on all stakeholders present to cooperate with them, assuring the public that the electoral officials will dispense their assignment with fairness and honesty.
