Coronavirus: Why Lagos May Extend Lockdown – Sanwo-Olu

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has stated that the lockdown of the state over the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic may be extended.

Naija News recalls that President Muhammadu Buhari had ordered the lockdown and restriction of movement in Lagos, Abuja and Ogun state for fourteen days to curb the spread of COVID-19.

This has led to Lagos residents complaining about hardship while urging the state government to relax the restriction.

Speaking to newsmen on Saturday, Sanwo-Olu said if a need arises for an extension, the restriction would be extended.

He said: “This is just day five. So, in the first 14 days, we still have about eight or nine days to go.

“So, I’m sure that it’s something that all of us, including the federal authorities will be reviewing. The lockdown was not only a directive of the governor; it was a national decision and it has national backing. So, if there is a need to extend, I can assure you that we will make the call.”
