Coronavirus: Adamawa State Commissions Isolation Centre Against Killer Virus

Adamawa State Government has announced its readiness to handle the killer coronavirus which recently emerged in Nigeria a few days ago.

In a bid to protect the lives of residents in the state, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri’s administration on Friday, March 6 commissioned a coronavirus isolation centre at the state capital, Yola.

According to the state Commissioner for Health & Human Development, Prof Abdullahi Isa, who made known the development, the isolation centre was installed to deal with any emergency of coronavirus virus case in the state.

Speaking about measures to be taken in other to avoid the infectious virus, Abdullahi hinted the people of the state that clean hands are paramount as it has been noted as one of the ways at which the virus could be contacted.

He said, “There are many ways you can contact coronavirus, including shaking hands with an infected person, handling money from such person, holding a contaminated banister rail, and so on.

“This is why we are telling our people to always wash and sanitise their hands and stay clean. This precaution is necessary because you can’t avoid contact with people. You can’t say you will not shake hands. So, the most important thing is hand hygiene. You should at least wash your hands with soap and water always.”

Speaking further to newsmen about the new development in the state, Abdullahi said; “We came here today to tell the public of our emergency preparedness. It became imperative for us to prepare an emergency place where if we have any case of coronavirus, we can handle it.”

“We have an isolated place here, duly prepared to manage such patients, and in the event, we have to refer any patient, we have standby ambulance dedicated for their transfer.”

He discloses also that the government has set up committees in each of the 21 local government areas of the Adamawa who will join heads with health practitioners to educate its people, including those in rural areas as regards measures and precautions on the Coronavirus attack.

Naija News understands that radio and television jingles were also considered by the state to enlighten its people.

Reporting earlier, Alhaji Aliko Dangote Foundation has promised Nigerian Government a whooping sum of N200million to support the fight against the spread of Corona Virus or Covid-19 in the country.
