Buhari Reveals Two Ways To Fight Corruption

President Muhammadu Buhari has said that one way to fight corruption is for Nigerians not to live a flamboyant lifestyle.

Speaking in an interview with the NTA on Thursday, Buhari advised the citizens to live within their means and not desire to live an extravagant lifestyle.

Another way to fight corruption, as stated by Buhari, is for state governments to fund departments, ministries and agencies and make the local governments more effective.

He said, “The problem of corruption is a continuous one for a developing country like Nigeria. People have to accept living within their means. As long as people don’t want to live within their means, so long will corruption be with us.

“The best way is funding by departments, ministries and especially by states. Now, look at local governments in this country, the third tier of government, it is getting less and less effective and they are supposed to be the most effective because they deal with bottom-up especially when it comes to education, healthcare, which are the basic things for the majority of Nigerians.

“Nigeria must conserve resources to give education and healthcare to the needy.

Earlier, President Buhari had warned chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC) against anointing candidates or appointing roles to members.

Ahead of the 2023 general elections, the President stated that there will no kingmaker or godfather roles in the ruling party and will not tolerate such.

The Nigerian leader advised aspirants seeking elective positions to embark on a massive campaign and let the people decide their candidate
