Buhari Drops ICPC Commissioner Nominee From Ekiti, Sends Replacement To Senate

The President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari has withdrawn an earlier nomination of Dr. Mojisola Yaya-Kolade from Ekiti State as Commissioner at the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

The development was confirmed in a letter read during Wednesday’s Senate plenary by Senate President Ahmad Lawan.

The letter also conveyed the nomination of Mr Olugbenga Adeyanju, AIG (Rtd) as a replacement for Yaya-Kolade.

Buhari in his letter, urged the lawmakers to confirm the new nominee for the ICPC role.

The letter reads in part: “In accordance with the provision of Section 3(3)(a) ICPC Act, I wrote to forward for confirmation by the Senate, the appointment of Olugbenga Adeyanju, AIG (Rtd) from Ekiti State as Commissioner representing South-West replacing the other nominee, at the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC). The nominee’s CV Is attached.

“It is my hope that the Senate will consider and confirm the nominee in the usual expeditious manner.”

In other news, the nomination of nine persons as commissioners for the National Population Commission (NPC), and the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) have been confirmed by the Senate on Wednesday.

This follows their nomination by President Muhammadu Buhari and the subsequent consideration of two separate reports by the Senate Committees on National Identity and National Population; and Power.

Naija News reports that four nominees were confirmed as Commissioners of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) while the other five are for the National Population Commission (NPC).

The nominees confirmed as NPC Commissioners are: Dr. Eyitayo Oyekunle Oyetunji (Oyo), Chief Engr. Benedict Ukpong Effiong (Akwa-Ibom), Mrs. Gloria Fateya Izonfo (Bayelsa), Barr. Kupchi Patricia Ori Iyanya (Benue), and Dr. Haliru Bala (Kebbi)

The four nominees confirmed as Commissioners for NERC are: Dr. Yusuf Ali (North-Central), Engr. Chidi Ike (South-East), Mr. Nathan Rogers Shatti (North-East), and Mr. Dafe Akpeneye (South-South).
