Some Boko Haram terrorists have reportedly attacked Jakana Police station in Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State, killing a policeman and a woman, while carting away arms and ammunition.
Naija News learnt that the terrorists ambushed the security operatives as they arrived at the police station around 1:00am and engaged in a gun duel with the officers until 3:00 am.
Security sources who spoke with Daily Trust said the insurgents also set ablaze two patrol vehicles and a motorcycle.
The source said, “They overpowered them and gained access into the police station and looted arms and ammunition and destroyed 2 patrol vehicles.
“One of the vehicles belong to the police and the other for the members of Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF).”
Confirming the incident to journalists, the Chairman of Konduga Local government, Hon Abbas Ali Abari, said more details regarding the attack will be released soon.
Meanwhile, the Borno State command Police Public Relations Officer, Nahun Kenneth, has yet to issue any statement regarding the attack.
Court Convicts 125 Boko Haram Members, Financial Backers
Meanwhile, the Federal Ministry of Justice has announced the conviction of 125 Boko Haram members and their financial supporters following a mass trial over two days in Kainji, Niger State.
The announcement was made by Kamardeen Ogundele, the spokesperson for the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Lateef Fagbemi, in a statement released on Friday, July 26.
Ogundele detailed that the convictions were for charges related to terrorism, financing terrorism, providing material support, and crimes associated with the International Criminal Court (ICC).
“The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), is overseeing the trials in collaboration with the Office of the National Security Adviser,” Ogundele stated.
The trials, conducted under the Giwa Project Kanji Phase Five, took place on Tuesday and Wednesday before a panel of five Federal High Court judges led by Justice Binta Nyako.
