Borno Governor Survives Boko Haram Attack
Boko Haram terrorists on Thursday night, attacked the convoy of Babagana Zulum, governor of Borno state while he was on an official trip.
Naija News understands the fighters attacked the governor’s convoy at Konduga while he and his team were returning from a trip to Bama local government area.
The incident was said to have occurred around 9pm after Zulum had visited Bayo, Kwaya Kusar, Askira Uba and Gwoza as part of his “familiarity and need assessment tour” of the 27 LGAs in the state.
Zulum and all those on his entourage however luckily escaped unhurt.
“Luckily the governor, his commissioners and other vehicles in the convoy escaped unhurt but the last vehicle which is an army gun truck was pelted with bullets,” a source told The Cable.
“Immediately after they fired at us, our men in collaboration with the armed personnel from the Federal Special Anti Robbery Squad(FSARS), quickly retaliated and thwarted the ambush.”
Naija News reports Konduga is an area close to the dreaded Sambisa forest and has experienced several attacks by the Boko Haram insurgents.
Recall about seven months ago, Boko Haram also attacked ex-governor Kashim Shettima (Zulum’s predecessor) on his way to Gamboru Ngala, also in Borno state.
At least 60 persons were reportedly killed in the incident while over 100 were kidnapped.
