The leader of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, will address “Biafrans” on a live broadcast via Radio Biafra from his base in Israel today by 6 pm (Nigerian time).
Kanu, who made this known in a tweet on Saturday afternoon, reiterated that members of his group and all “Biafrans” will boycott next month’s general elections.
The IPOB leader said he and members of his group will continue to deploy all manner of civil disobedience, noting that “Chief Awolowo’s election boycott of 1964 collapsed the First Republic” and that IPOB can do same in 2019.
Kanu tweeted: “I will broadcast on Radio Biafra today Saturday, January 19, 2019, at 6 PM Biafraland time. We shall continue to deploy all manner of civil disobedience, after all, Chief Awolowo’s election boycott of 1964 collapsed the First Republic and so can we in 2019. Please join us!”

Naija News reports that Kanu’s statement is coming a few days after he said members of his group will participate in the forthcoming governorship elections in Abia and Ebonyi state.
Kanu who made this comment during a live interactive broadcast on radio Biafra last week Saturday which was monitored by Naija News said this became imperative in order to vote out Ikpeazu and Umahi whom he described as “enemies of Biafra”.
Giving reasons for his decision on the participation of his group in the forthcoming election, Kanu had said: “Because we said we are not going to vote doesn’t mean we can’t mobilise to have you voted out. That’s what will happen in Abia and Ebonyi. Perhaps if we keep quiet all the time, they’ll think, since they’re not going to vote does it really matter?
“But we have a very special programme for Abia and Ebonyi. They’ll find it difficult. The day people will realise the damage people like Umahi are doing to our people, they will understand why we must get rid of them in the corridors of power,” the IPOB leader had added.
Naija News reports that Kanu is leading a group seeking secession from Nigeria. The group has since been proscribed by the Nigerian government.
