Akpabio Attends Inter-parliamentary Union Assembly In Angola [Photos]

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has arrived in Luanda, the capital of Angola, to represent the country at the 147th Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly.

In a statement on Sunday, the media aide to Akpabio, Anietie Ekong, said the Senate President led a delegation of four Senators and five members of the House of Representatives to the event, which commenced on October 21 and would end on October 27.

Ekong disclosed that the Environment and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are some of the issues the assembly will discuss.

He quoted Akpabio as saying that it would have been a disservice if Nigeria did not attend the assembly, adding that the presence of Nigerian lawmakers is to ensure that the nation’s bilateral relationship is strengthened.

Akpabio said: “It would have been a disservice to Africa if Nigeria did not have a strong delegation at the IPU. Our presence here is to ensure that our bilateral relationship is strengthened.

“With our presence, we can forge a strong bilateral parliamentary relationship for the interest of our nations.”

Don’t Use Me As Example In Your Anti-Corruption Fight – Akpabio Tells EFCC Chair

Meanwhile, Akpabio last week Thursday told the chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, not to use him as an example in the anti-corruption fight.

Olukoyede, who appeared before the Senate for screening last week Wednesday, had cited Akpabio’s name as an example in his presentation on investigating a graft case.

The chairman of the anti-graft agency, however, stopped when he realised the mood of lawmakers in the Chamber.

Olukoyede said, “If we are investigating the Senate President, for example,” prompting lawmakers to burst into laughter.

The laughter became louder when Akpabio told the EFCC nominee not to cite his name as an example in the investigation of a corruption case.
